CEREC same-day crowns are a faster way to deliver premium protection against future tooth decay and damage. As a preferred alternative to traditional dental restorations, these crowns deliver efficiency and accuracy that allow patients to enjoy a functional smile and beautiful aesthetics without multiple appointments. As a solution that offers many great benefits, you may be eager to get started with your own CEREC crown, but do you understand the recovery process? Keep reading to discover what you’ll need to do to manage any discomfort and take better care of your new smile.

Will There Be Any Discomfort After Receiving a CEREC Crown?

Although you will receive local anesthesia before receiving your CEREC crown, this will eventually wear off. When it does, you can expect there to be minimal discomfort. The reason is that the decay and/or damage that was the cause of your restorative care required removal.

Any kind of dental work that involves clearing out bacteria and unhealthy tissue requires some form of anesthesia to prevent pain during treatment. As a result, though, when it wears off, you can expect soreness, as your tooth will need to heal.

You can manage this by taking an over-the-counter pain reliever (ibuprofen) and using a cold compress. You might also experience some slight sensitivity for a few days, so you’ll want to stay away from hot or cold foods or beverages to avoid sharp pains.

How Should You Maintain Your New Crown During and After Recovery?

There are a few helpful tips you should plan to follow once your CEREC crown is firmly in place. This will ensure you recover swiftly and successfully, avoiding potential complications:

  • Avoid all sticky foods for the first 24 hours, as this will allow your tooth and crown to properly cement together. You can begin to eat normal food again once you are comfortable with the durability and stability of your crown, which should be no more than 1-2 days.
  • Practice optimal oral hygiene to avoid future decay. CEREC crowns will minimize the potential for reinfection; however, if you fail to brush, floss, and rinse as you should, the risk of problems increases dramatically.
  • Be mindful of biting down on anything hard, as this can damage or fracture your new crown.
  • Get in touch with your dentist if you notice persistent or increasing pain after your CEREC crown is put in place.

Receiving a CEREC crown can be a worthwhile investment if you follow the instructions provided to you by your dentist. In turn, you will reap the benefits of a faster restorative form of treatment.
