Are you among that number? If so, are you using your benefits to the full? Habits like using your <a href=\"https:\/\/www.northjacksonvillecompletedentistry.com\/insurance-and-payments.html\">dental insurance<\/a> only for emergencies or just visiting the dentist once a year put both your oral health and your money at risk. Let\u2019s talk about why you should use your benefits to the full and how you can do so.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Remember that Benefits Expire<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Is your dental plan a PPO policy? PPO policies are great\nbecause they allow you to visit any licensed dentist and still use your\nbenefits. However, they <em>do <\/em>come with some fine print. Most PPO plans enforce\nan annual maximum, which is the most that the insurance company will pay out\nfor approved treatments within a calendar year. If you do not use all of that\nmoney by December 31, the unused funds disappear. They do not roll over into\nthe following year. Therefore, you could be losing out on hundreds of dollars\u2019\nworth of benefits annually if you do not keep up with recommended dental\ntreatments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Schedule a Year-End Checkup<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>One way to get more out of your policy is to make sure you attend\nas many preventive appointments as your plan allows. Most PPO plans provide 100\npercent coverage for two checkups and cleanings each year, which means that you\ncould visit your dentist for absolutely nothing out of pocket. Regularly attending\nthese routine visits can go a long way toward helping you avoid serious oral\nhealth problems \u2014 and the costs associated with them \u2014 down the road.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Plan for Recommended Treatment<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>If your dental exam makes you aware of any developing oral health\nissues, you may still have time to get those treated in 2019. But what if you\nhave a significant problem that requires a major, costly procedure? You might\nbe able to break up the treatment across multiple appointments between this\nyear and next. You may therefore be able to use two annual maximums rather than\none.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you have a flexible spending account (FSA), you might\nconsider using that to pay for what your insurance does not cover (insurance\nusually covers 50 percent of the cost of major treatments). FSA funds typically\nexpire at the end of the year. However, many of them have a slight grace period\nthat will extend into 2020.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Ask for Help<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>If you aren\u2019t quite sure how your plan works, don\u2019t be shy\nabout asking for help. The team at your dentist\u2019s office can verify your\ncoverage, file your claims, and more. Plus, if they are in-network with your\ninsurance policy, they may be in an especially good position to help you maximize\nyour benefits and navigate the nuances of your coverage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>2019 dental benefits are about to expire!
